Cynics Blog Post
In the previous post Shell has internal documents predicting 4C-6C global temperature rise I said that The Guardian had more upcoming articles about energy use, climate change, and other global disasters as they were related to climate change.
According to The Guardian article, it seems that Peabody Energy, the largest coal company in the world, exploited the Ebola Crisis, perhaps even increasing the amount of fear of many people in the industrialized world, for their own benefit. How? By showing how the Ebola Crisis was related to poverty, and low-energy-availability slowed the ability to distribute a vaccine, had there been one. By showing how coal, the fossil fuel which is believed to lead to the most deaths worldwide, can produce energy, which, in turn will help the digitization of the country or region, and help them out of poverty. While this is a nice goal, there are no doubt other ways to generate electricity efficiently and cheaply enough so they can use it. Curing people of Ebola only to have them die of inhaling coal fumes is hardly a solution.
Please read The Guardian’s article. They also bring up how it’s “Apartheid Style” for several major investors to have a stated goal of divesting themselves of fossil fuel stocks. Gee, I thought it was just wise investing and capitalism at work
