Decaf: End of Life As We Know It

Okay, I’ve got plenty of ways that the earth could end, or at least the end of life as we know it. Today I found the biggest threat of all in < href="http://discovermagazine.com">Discover Magazine In their #33 in their “Top 100 stories for 2009”, is The Most Amazing New Species of the Year http://discovermagazine.com/2010/jan-feb/33 . In that article, they discovered a plant that is truly horrifying!

Coffea charrieriana: Producing the first known coffee bean that is naturally caffeine free, this plant from Cameroon could lead to commercial coffee trees that produce their own decaf.

Yes, it’s true. These plants can naturally produce decaffeinated coffee beans!

How can mankind survive without sufficient caffeine to maintain life? Or, will we have sufficient caffeine extracted from tea and other plants sufficient to maintain life as it is when you first wake up before you’ve had the first cup of coffee of the day? This plant ruins the giant leap for mankind made with the introduction of programmable coffee makers which could have fresh hot coffee ready and waiting the second you got out of bed. Now, to have coffee plants which will turn this into decaf?????
