I think you missed the point. I am certain of the argument. I am certain that it could happen. A lot of things can happen. Only a few of them do. This blog only deals with issues which are reported as possible or likely to end life on earth as we know it. Earthquakes or supervolcanos certainly could, and they are happening at a higher intensity in some areas than have ever been recorded, for as long as we've had the equipment to record them... roughly over the past 60 years... and compare that to the past 4.5 billion years.... the truth is that we don't know. Some of the scenarios discussed on this blog are pretty certain to happen - but we don't know when, some of them are unlikely to happen, and some are just absurd.

We hear about these. Which scenarios fall into what category - certain, likely, unlikely, and ridiculous?

Together with the whole thing which seems to be developing inside this specific subject material, all your points of view are actually somewhat refreshing. However, I beg your pardon, because I can not subscribe to your entire idea, all be it exhilarating none the less. It would seem to everyone that your remarks are generally not completely rationalized and in actuality you are generally yourself not even totally certain of the argument. In any event I did enjoy reading through it.

NEVER BELIEVE ANYTHING UNTIL IT'S BEEN OFFICIALLY DENIED!

from http://blogs.voanews.com/science-world/2011/11/14/nasa-doubtful-killer-solar-flare-will-destroy-earth/

"So here’s another post with a good answer to the nagging question; will Earth be destroyed by a killer solar flare? In a word, according to NASA, no."

There, so NASA officially denied that the earth will be destroyed in a killer solar flare! That proves that it's bound to happen.

Do we really believe that the ancient Mayans actually had scientific knowledge that far exceed our own? That seems incredibly unlikely. It's even less likely, although possible, that highly-advanced space aliens could have traveled to the earth, done scientific studies to indicate the precise date, to tell them that their sun would blow up - not when these people didn't have the ability yet for any sort of long-distance travel, nor did these supposed aliens give them the ability to get off the planet or away from this disaster.

Even if such aliens existed, to believe them, we would have to look at their data. Why would you believe something that a space alien told you over what your neighbor tells you, a primitive person of a different culture tells you, or any government - foreign or domestic - tells you?

Yes, Virginia, the earth may be destroyed in a solar flare. No one knows through any means whether this will happen tomorrow, in another 4.5 billion years, or anywhere in between. The odds are minuscule that this will happen on December 23, 2012!

Something else might destroy the earth, life on earth, or human life first.

An addendum to the above essay:

My prostitute friend has now completed her university training in Psychology.

She periodically takes a vacation from psychology to travel the USA as an "escord" (and get paid to boot). She says she needs the time away from her clients and the loonies, who she describes as other psychologists.
